Nature Attacks! (I Survived True Stories #2) (2)

Awesome for all Ages!
My 9 yo daughter has loved the I Survived series for a few years now. Truth be told, I do too.The stories are always about a kid (usually 11yo) who lives through historical disasters, and we learn about those disasters through his/her eyes. The tales are well-written and include facts- as well as historical fiction to hold the audienceโs attention. They are exciting and sad; gripping and profound; tragic and heartwarming. You can always count on the main kid-character surviving...but not always the other people in the story.Your child and you will certainly come away with the intended morals:*War is Hell. (D day, Pearl Harbor, Gettysburg, American Revolution, Civil War etc)*People can be evil: (Hitler, 9/11, maybe in a few years, Trump will be a subject of one of her books)*The newest inventions arenโt always the best: (Titanic, Hindenburg)Donโt turn your back on nature: (Tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, floods)Animals are wild; donโt turn your back on them either:: (sharks, grizzlies)And molasses is...well. We are reading that one next.Really can not recommend enough.

Fascinating.
There seems to be something compelling about hearing disaster stories. Especially if they happen to someone else. And to be honest, I'm no different in that regard. When I think about what it is that draws me to these stories I come up with three reasons: it makes me happy to be living my own life, I admire the determination and courage that often shines through in such stories (not that everyone behaves that way), and I'm looking for ideas for how I could survive if such a thing ever happened to me.Young readers aren't any different than older readers when it comes to disaster stories. And true disaster stories are especially appealing for some readers. This nonfiction companion to Tarshis's historical fiction series I Survived, takes a look at real disasters that have occurred that involved children. The stories in this second volume of the True Stories series looks at a shark attack, a jellyfish accident, a volcanic eruption and a wildfire. Tarshis briefly shares each story after which she includes some interesting back matter including photographs, historical living, statistics (when available), her sources, and related topics. This book is bound to send students looking for other such stories and more information about these topics and stories. As a librarian, I especially appreciated her explaining about the research she does before writing each story.

Granddaughter enthralled by series.
My granddaughter and her friends just love this series. The natures Attacks was one of their favorites. Lots of action and excitement along with educational material. The Pictures were an added plus. They will be asking for more in this series.

Great book
This book was really good, it was thrilling and cool. And I learned all new facts. I recommend this book 8+ because it is a bit scary. But overall I loved it.

Great Book. Great Books!
My son has enjoyed all the I Survived books, he enjoyed this one as well. He does not like to read as most 11 year olds would probably prefer playing with their Playstation or X Box. But once he starts to read the I Survived Books, he gets sucked right in. If anyone is trying to get their 11 year old son to read more, they the I survived series. And buy the box sets instead of individual books that way you get a better bargin and don't have to worry about which ones he has already read or not. That way your not buying duplicate books.

Great series, recommended by 10 year old
I ordered this for my son. He loves the I survived series. He enjoys the author's writing style of weaving a great story in with the disaster. I have tried to get him interested in many different authors and books, but these are the only ones he consistently reaches for, and rereads.According to my son, the True Stories #1 was a little more enjoyable than #2, but he still gives it 5 stars. Thank you for keeping him entertained and engaged through reading!

It's was gift for my niece and she love it. I would definitely recommend for kids who are into reading. I would buy the whole collection bundle but she already has some of them so there was no point.
